How to Live a Godly Life

Or

What Does It Mean to be Worldly?

Is being a Christian just a list of dos and don'ts? Make your own list of what you think a Christian should or should not do..

Such as:      1.  Christians don't dance.

                   2.

                   3.

                   4.

                   5.

                   6.

                   7.

What does the Bible say about these?  See if you can find Scripture that speaks to your above list.

                   1.

                   2.

                   3.

                   4.

                   5.

Let's take dancing as an example. What is the reason for each example of dancing?

          Psalm 150:

          Exodus 15:20

          1 Samuel 29:5

          Jeremiah 31:13

Do you see a trend here?

What importance do motives have in our behavior?

Should we be exactly like all the pagans around us?

How should we be different?

          In dress?                                 In ornaments?

In speech?                               In the place we live?

In attitude?                             In what we fill our spare time with?

Some extreme examples: Amish, Monks.

Romans 12:1-2

I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

How should we be different according to this passage?

How could we apply this passage to following fashion trends?

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.

How could we apply this passage to listening to secular music/movies?

Is some secular music/movies pure, lovely, honorable etc.

Is some of it not?

What does that mean to our listening/watching/reading habits?

"But I think tattoos are cool."

"It's exciting to gamble."

"Where does the Bible say you can't watch 'R' rated movies?

How should we approach these issues?

What have we learned about our own motives, and the content of our actions?

What is our focus in these types of questions?

1 John 2:15-16

Do not love the world, nor the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
